The Onion spies on my brainwaves once again.

I'm glad Obama's inspiring so many people to give to his campaign, or that McCain/Palin scares them enough to contribute to the other side.  On the other hand, the amount of money that will eventually end up in the hands of Rupert Murdoch, GE, and the like, makes me want to throw up my green tea.  I listened to MPR run the most pathetic funddrive ever last weekend, losing a $45,000 bonus because they couldn't get 350 people to contribute one morning.  Yeah, yeah, the economy, the stock market, I'm not living in a cave, and I gave to the Obama campaign.  I gave to a political campaign for the first time ever.  But it made me feel dirty.  I felt better giving $1.75 to the ungrateful street hustler outside of the BLB last night.  Because this money ultimately goes nowhere.  Not to the schools, not the free clinics, not to the Southern Poverty Law Center, not to the foodbanks.  Nowhere.  I cannot wait until this election is over.

new zoo reviews

I hated that show.  Now I look back on it as the clearest sign of my television addiction as a kid.  Not that I was allowed to watch much, not that I didn't play outside and do other kid things, and not that my obsession could even dream of competing with the technological ubiquity of kids today, but I sat and watched that stupid show with the oversized costumes (something I've always loathed, even as a little girl) just because it was on.

Wow.  Just followed my own link and discovered I was really young when it was on.  So much hatred for such a cute kid.  And ... holy shit, Chuck Woolery was on it?

Anyway...

I've decided to rush and post links to all the good reviews (a few spoilers here - you've been warned), before Papatola weighs in and excoriates me.  He came Monday night apparently.  I felt like the audience hated me Monday night.  Not Leni; me.  Some have assured me that my perception was totally inaccurate, but I know that they're lying.  Or simply wrong.  I. know. All. Mwah ha ha!

The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to step in and stop the execution of Troy Davis, so it's back in the hands of the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles.  You can follow the links of my previous post to get more information about this case, or go to the ACLU website to send a pre-written letter or write your own, if you're so inclined.  Execution is set for October 27th.

So tonight is the opening of Amazons, featured now by all three local newspapers.  No pressure.  None at all.  Add to this last night's final dress, which was by far the worst one I've ever had, and >95% of the problem was me. 

But, really, none of this matters.  I may not rock this play, but it's unlikely I'll destroy it.  And the critical pressure isn't actually real, that is it has no bearing on what we do.  It's all abstract bullshit.  Every play comes down to the same stuff: say the damn lines, move the creaky body to the right place, and deal with what's in front of you.

So anyway, just had to throw that up.  I'm feeling pretty good today.

transportation

As usual, a whole passel of riders got added onto the bailout package.  The bike commuter bonus is pretty groovy.  Especially since I live in the #2 bike commuter city in the country (you remember where I live, right?  you remember the winters?  oh, yeah.  minnesotans may be infuriatingly passive-aggressive, but they are hardass cyclists).  I miss biking.  After my (Rik's old) bike got stolen, I bought one cheap used bike, then another, and my back strongly rebelled against both.  While I love to walk, it's not terribly efficient, and now that I've torn my front bumper halfway off my truck (oops!), I'm wishing I had a two-wheeler to pedal home from rehearsal this week, so I wouldn't have to get the little truck fixed right away.  So it goes.  The bumper has been rusted out on one side and partially detached on the other for a year or more.  I just accelerated the necessity for care. I guess I could just spend the money on a good bike, but as little as I use my truck, I am fond of it.  It's terribly reliable, it transports stuff well, and it gives me an instant out if I ever need it.  So I'll sink a little dough into it.  And buy a bike in the spring.

When I've had enough I'll get a pickup truck & I'll drive away.

So our once-and-soon-gone president is telling people not to panic.  He is reassuring us that there is no reason to be so frightened.  That we are rich and happy. That everything will be okay.

Oh, now there's nothing to fear.

You know what, shithead?  You presidency is our number one promoter of fear and ignorance. You run your administration and foreign policy on fear and ignorance.  Your citizens are responding to the financial crisis in kind.

Reap what you sew, yo!

Mostly, just get the fuck out of my newspapers, and off my internet.  I've been as forgiving as I can (i.e. I consider you a human being, endowed with certain unalienable rights...) for 8 years, but you're done, and I'm sick of being nice, and I disrespectfully request that you crawl under a big, heavy, slimy rock until January 20th.  If you can slither out after that, good on ya.
